"Founded in 1922, Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) is a society for students, particularly undergraduates, dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research.  There are more than 406 chapters offering their members activities and experiences that enrich and extend but do not duplicate the primary requirements for the biology major. MEMBERSHIP OPTIONS
 
REGULAR
  • Undergraduate biology, environmental science, or ornamental horticulture majors
  • Lifetime national membership
  • Cummulative GPA of 3.10
  • Major GPA of 3.25 (BIOL courses required for major)
  • Completion of a minimum of 16 BIOL credits with no more than 8 at 100-level
  • Initiation fee:  $45 (includes two-year subscription to BIOS)
 
GRADUATE
  • Master of Science in Environmental Science graduate student or BCES faculty
  • Lifetime national membership
  • Initiation fee:  $45 (includes two-year subscription to BIOS)

  • Any undergraduate CNU student with significant interest in Life Sciences but ineligible for Regular Membershsip
  • Membership terminates upon graduation
  • May not wear official insignia
  • Initiation fee:  $35 (includes one-year subscription to BIOS)
  • Note: Associate Members who subsequently become regular members receive full $35 credit towards Regular initiation fee
 
ALUMNI
  • Undergraduate biology, environmental science, or ornamental horticulture majors who graduated prior to May 2006
  • Initiation fee: $45 annually (includes two-year subscription to BIOS)

Student nominations are approved by a committee of faculty before membership is granted.  All application information submitted must be true and accurate. If approved for membership, the appropriate fee becomes due. 

Regular membership may be suspended for failure to maintain academic standards, and membership (except Alumni) in the local chapter will terminate upon graduation.

  AWARD OPPORTUNITIES

The McClung Award - for the most outstanding paper published in BIOS each year. All papers published in BIOS are automatically reviewed by the McClung Committee which announces the Award in January of each year. 

The Beta Beta Beta Research Awards - cash scholarships annually to students conducting student research. The applications are due at the National Office in September of each year and the Awards are given by November each year.

The Frank G. Brooks Award - for excellence in undergraduate research presented in an oral session at either a district or national meeting. The district awards are given annually in each district and the national awards are given biennially at national meetings. Paper sessions are judged by a panel of faculty, chapter advisors, and/or national officers.

The John C. Johnson Award - for excellence in undergraduate research presented in a poster session at either a district or national meeting. District awards are given annually in each district and national awards are given biennially at national meetings.

The Chapter History Award - for outstanding display of chapter activities in scrapbook format. This award is given at some district conventions and at national conventions.

Brooks and Johnson Travel Stipends - given to First place Brooks and Johnson district winners to attend and present their winning paper or poster at the next national convention. The Award will pay the registration fee which includes room and some meals and most of the field trip fees.
