DESCRIPTION
The Environmental Science Graduate Program is pleased to offer graduate assistantships supported by CNU graduate program funds.
- Typically, these assistantships are $2,000 per award.
- The assistantship is a single, one-time award (not multi-year). A recipient would have to reapply for the assistantship in the following year.
- In addition to the $2,000 award, the student qualifies to receive a tuition waiver for the award year.
CRITERIA
We invite qualifying 5-year BS/MS students in the second semester of their senior year and degree-seeking ENVS graduate students to apply. Qualifying students must satisfy the following:
- Complete the Bachelor of Science degree prior to fall of the grant year;
- Have 13 or more credit hours of graduate courses remaining in their program of study;
- Enroll in a minimum of 6 graduate credit hours during each semester of the 2008-2009 academic year;
- Be employed no more than part-time during the time-period of the award.
Recipient(s) of an assistantship will be required to remain in good academic standing and actively work towards the completion of their degree.
THE APPLICATION PACKAGE
A completed application package must include all of the following seven (7) items:
- Cover letter: The cover letter should include a statement expressing how you meet all of the above qualifying criteria, a brief summary statement of your thesis research topic and a description of your career goals.
- Research Proposal: A three to five page research proposal that includes a timetable of major research goals (Follow the outline provided in the Graduate Student Handbook: subject, background, research methods, research site, and references).
- Academic Transcripts: Provide your academic transcripts from your undergraduate and graduate studies (copies are accepted).
- Letter of Support: A letter of support from your Thesis Advisor.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
All completed and qualifying applications for the BCES Graduate Assistantship Program received by the date stated above, will be evaluated on the following weighted criteria:

Support of Graduate Advisor: Based from information included in the letter of support from your thesis advisor.

Quality of Written Work: Cover letter, Research Proposal, and Resume should be written with attention to detail, organization, clarity, and grammar.

Academic Record: Based on undergraduate and graduate performance (transcripts).
