2. Liberal Learning Areas of Inquiry (22 credits)
One course in the Area of Inquiry of your major discipline may be presented to satisfy an Area of Inquiry requirement; no more than seven credit hours from any single discipline may be taken to satisfy the Areas of Inquiry. The seven hours in the Investigating the Natural World must include two lecture courses and one accompanying laboratory.

3. Liberal Learning Emphasis (6 credits)
At least 6 additional credits in one of the above Areas of Inquiry with at least 3 credits at the 300-level or higher. Courses taken to satisfy the Liberal Learning Emphasis may not be in the department of the major or any discipline for which the major requires coursework at the 300-level or above.

Completion of two 300- or 400-level courses that are designated as Writing Intensive (WI).

In addition to successful completion of the Liberal Learning Curriculum and the Exit Examination in Biology, the Bachelor of Science degree in Biology requires successful completion of the following courses. Students who anticipate graduate school in horticulture could complete organic chemistry. Those with an interest in business may consider a minor in business or choose business courses as electives.

- Four of the following horticulture courses: BIOL 303/303L (Landscape Horticulture); BIOL 304/304L (Soils); BIOL 311/311L (Plant Propagation); BIOL 415/415L (Pathology of Ornamental Plants and Lab) or BIOL 416/416L (Nursery and Garden Center Management)
NOTE: All 300-/400-level BIOL courses have BIOL 202/202L as prerequisites. BIOL 151/151L, 152/152L, 201/201L, 202/202L, the junior level WI course, and 491W must be completed with a C- or better. Students may present no more than two grades below C- in BIOL courses.
