Research / Field Work

 

Christopher Newport University

  • Led rate of decaying matter study in the Dragon Run Swamp and Mariners’ Museum Park.
  • Assisted in Dolphin Field Research of Bottlenose dolphins in the Elizabeth River. 
  • Led Eastern bluebird study in Newport News Park studying nesting success, parental investment, delivery rates of prey items to nestlings.
  • Led an insect study at the Mariners’ Museum Park to compare the distribution of arthropods found among various vegetation locations.
  • Established a bluebird trail in Mariners’ Museum Park consisting of 12 houses.
  • Assisted in studying roost selection and habitat of Rafinesque’s big eared bat in Sussex County, Virginia.
  • Assisted in research that was conducted on sand dunes at Grandview Beach.
  • Assisted with the Chemical Analysis of Glandular Secretions in Chiroteran Species of the bats in Pershing County, Nevada.
  • Assisted with the potential variation of insect diversity and habitat quality utilized by Townsend's Big-Eared Bats in Pershing County, Nevada.
  • Assisted in the differential use of Pinyon-Juniper woodland habitat by Corynorhinus townsendii in Pershing County, Nevada.
  • Assisted in the phylogeography and population genetics of Flammulated Owls (Otus flammeolus) in Carson City, Nevada.
  • Led a study of the applicability and reliability of survey techniques of Townsend’s Big-eared bat (Corynorhinus townsendii) in Pershing County, Nevada.
  • Currently leading Eastern bluebird study in Mariners’ Museum Park studying nesting success, parental investment, and delivery rates of prey items to nestlings.

University of New Mexico / Nevada Department of Wildlife

  • Field Researcher / Biologist: Radio Telemetry, Mist netting, Pitfall & Malaise trap collection, and Owl Pellet Collection.
  • Project Leader:  External Survey Techniques - Through the use of closed-circuit cameras, sony nightshot cameras, night vision goggles, TrailMasters, flood lamps, and remote controlled vehicles.

  • Office Assistant:  Aiding professors, making copies, answering the phone, putting together displays, cleaning, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Chemistry Lab Assistant:  Helped to setup lab exercises, organized the chemical stock room, and help to mix chemicals.
  • Teaching Assistant for two Biology III:  Taught and assisted students in conducting experiments.  Graded lab note books.
  • Teaching Assistant for Animal Behavior:  Assisted in the preparation of lab exercises and took care of lab animals.
  • Teaching Assistant for Ornithology:  Developed a Bird Identification CD which included pictures and calls of 121 most common birds in Virginia.  Also aided in making lab exams, grading papers, and planning lab secessions.

  • Shift Manager – Make setup sheets, running the crew, handle customer complaints, promoting a positive environment, motivating the crew, counting registers, performing daily deposits, firing people, interviewing people, catering functions, fostering second mile service, closing the day out, cleaning functions, and handling situations.
    • Night Time Training Coordinator - Responsible for tracking, creating tests, leading training exercises, encouragement, and name badge pins.
    • Kid’s Night Director – Responsible for crafts, monthly newsletter, guests, & activities.
    • P.O.P. Director – Responsible for store decorations and advertisements. 
    • Sampler – Presented samples to customers.
    • Mascot – Was the cow upon occasion at different events.
    • Graphic Design Artist – Created many brochures for fundraisers, store outing signs, rug designs, and catering brochures.
