Reclaiming the land consists of adding heavy clay fill and a layer of topsoil. Water supply was readily available and soil conditions were ideal for creating a wetland.
Management consists of flooding in the fall and winter and drawing water down in the spring and summer to expose the seed bed.
Project Goals:
- Get the hydrology right
- To provide a variety of water depths to support high diversity of moist-soil plants for optimal waterfowl habitat.
- Determine original landscape contour
- Shape the land to provide optimal water depths
- Three-equal-area elevational terraces
- Choosing wetland plants with high nutrient content for waterfowl
